PurposeOffice of Campus Planning in leading, organizing, and overseeing all physical planning activities from program conception to construction completion for all facilities and real estate related projects initiated by the campus, its neighbors or partners. This position plays a key role in implementation of the campus Master Plan and related capital outlay planning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Project Planning – Independently manages capital project scope development and schematic design, working with planning staff and stakeholders, including consultants. Ensures projects meet campus plans, design standards, environmental requirements, and sustainability commitments. Includes preparation of Requests for Proposals and Qualifications from consultants; guidance for consulting firms; coordination with the construction management team through construction to maintain scope; filing of environmental documentation as required.
- Auxiliary Planning – Leads planning and design of land use, facilities, and infrastructure for campus auxiliaries. Manages planning studies, committees, and data analysis for current and future projects. Collaborates with auxiliaries and stakeholders who manage housing, transportation, parking, athletics, and student union operations.
- Capital Outlay Planning – Develops and maintains an effective CIP to address enrollment pressures. Works with departments to create a prioritized project list for funding sources, especially the Chancellor’s Office 5-Year CIP submission. Supports a transparent CIP process with timelines, approvals, and funding strategies.
- Environmental Oversight – Leads environmental policy development and review related to CEQA, NEPA, CERCLA, MEC cleanup, and related compliance. Oversees environmental documents and coordinates reviews and recommendations.
- Plans/Studies and Regional Planning – Oversees preparation of plans and studies, Master Plan updates, and related environmental documents. Facilitates campus involvement in planning and coordinates with communities and agencies on planning issues.
- Mapping, Documentation, and Database Management – Prepares maps and documentation for campus planning and construction. May assist with GIS needs. Manages land use entitlements, easements, and real estate documentation. Assists with data reporting.
