Job Summary
Charge RN – Infusion Center (Monterey, CA). Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Operations, the Charge Nurse will coordinate and deliver quality patient care on designated shifts. The position is full‑time (Monday‑Friday, 10‑hour shifts) and exempt.
Responsibilities- Plan, coordinate, and direct daily operations of a specific shift on the clinical unit.
- Supervise staff and facilitate communication with physicians and internal administrators to provide optimal, patient‑ and family‑centered care.
- Lead efforts to strengthen organizational systems and implement innovative approaches to improve patient outcomes.
- Mentor other Registered Nurses in charge nurse functions and foster leadership development.
- Resolve conflicts among nursing staff, provide counseling and take corrective action as needed, and assist with verbal warnings for attendance and performance issues.
- Coordinate unit staffing to meet department needs.
- Participate in regulatory agency reviews and prepare documentation.
- Provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff regarding policies, scheduling, assignments, and organizational skills.
- Collaborate to provide educational programs and develop leadership focused in‑services (e.g., time management, team building).
- Assist in the administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and biotherapy medications via multiple routes; insert peripheral IVs; manage central access devices; conduct patient assessment; manage symptoms; and provide patient and caregiver education.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred).
- Current California RN license.
- Current certification in BLS and/or ALS.
- Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) preferred;
Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Provider Card required within 1 year of employment. - Previous oncology nursing experience preferred.
Knowledge of chemotherapeutic and biologic agents, assessment skills with understanding of common side effects, IV insertion skills, and troubleshooting of central access devices. Strong time‑management, critical thinking, teamwork, and basic computer skills for Electronic Medical Records are required. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Physical Requirements- Vision sufficient to read handwritten, typed, and computer documents.
- Speech and hearing sufficient to receive and communicate detailed information clearly by phone and in person.
- Manual dexterity to use needles, IVs, and various handheld tools.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs, walk one flight of stairs, and remain stationary at work post for long periods.
$57.12 – $69.44 per hour.
