Opportunity OverviewPacific Cancer Care is seeking an organized, disciplined, and compassionate Triage Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Monterey team. The role is critical in managing chemotherapy side effects and oncological emergencies through telephone and in‑person triage assessments. The Triage RN determines optimal patient management (ER, clinic, homecare), coordinates follow‑up care, and provides patient education in accordance with established protocols.

Schedule: Full‑time, Monday–Friday, 8‑hour shifts (in person preferred; remote/hybrid considered)
Salary Range: $43.00–$58.00 per hour, commensurate with experience

- Manage chemotherapy side effects and oncological emergencies via telephone triage and in‑person assessment.
- Determine appropriate care setting (ER, clinic, homecare) and coordinate follow‑up care.
- Prescribe and communicate treatment plans and patient teaching per established protocols.
- Triage phone calls according to acuity; provide or obtain sound nursing advice/medical response same day (90% of the time).
- Notify MD of urgent/critical findings for response within 30 minutes; identify patients requiring ER transfer.
- Respond to patient requests for refill prescriptions, lab or radiology results promptly; clarify prescriptions with outside pharmacies as needed.
- Coordinate referrals to external providers (home health, DME, etc.) and ensure services are established.
- Demonstrate understanding of commonly used oral chemotherapy and targeted agents, including side effect management.
- Provide patient and family education regarding medications, toxicities, and management strategies.
- Ensure follow‑up calls for patients on oral agents to assess compliance and toxicity.
- Submit prescriptions to specialty pharmacies and obtain prior authorizations as required.
- Complete referral paperwork thoroughly, including MD signatures.
- NAVIGATE ONCO EMR to obtain information, add tests, activities, and medications accurately.
- Utilize community and online resources for patient and family support.
- Participate in INR monitoring and dosing; review labs and adjust Coumadin per guidelines and/or MD recommendation.
- Complete Death Certificate worksheets and sympathy cards with appropriate signatures.
- Uphold PCC’s mission, values, and culture by promoting compassionate, patient‑centered care.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Associate’s degree in nursing required; BSN preferred (MSN a plus).
- Current California RN license.
- 1 year of oncology and infusion experience required; 2‑3 years strongly preferred.
- BLS certification required.
- Prior experience in oncology, infusion, and patient triage.
- Strong patient education, assessment, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet performance standards.
- Proficiency in EMR systems (OncoEMR preferred).
