Job TitleRegistered Nurse (RN) – NICU
LocationMonterey, CA | NICU / Nursery (Level II)
Schedule / Job TypeContract | Night Shift | 12-Hour Shifts | Every Other Weekend | Holidays worked into rotation | On-call requirement (must be available within 30 minutes for low-census call)
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care in a Level II NICU/Nursery setting with an 8-bed unit; common diagnoses include hyperbilirubinemia, hypoglycemia, phototherapy, IV antibiotics, and feeder/grower patients (31 weeks gestation and above)
- Attend deliveries in the role of baby nurse, responsible for immediate newborn care including initiating resuscitation if needed; must be confident and competent in neonatal resuscitation and stabilization from the moment of birth
- Manage patients independently in a smaller, resource-limited environment with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2–3; minimum of two nurses on unit at all times
- Monitor all telemetry using Philips tele and fetal monitors; nurses are responsible for reading and interpreting all strips
- Float to couplet care and assist with other unit tasks as needed
- May serve in a charge nurse capacity with a small patient assignment when required
- Active RN license valid in California
- BLS certification required
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required
- Minimum 2 years of NICU experience; must have Level III NICU experience or above
- Must have couplet care experience and be skilled in breastfeeding techniques and patient education
- Must be comfortable with high-flow nasal cannula and CPAP; comfortable with stabilization of neonates
- Must be confident working in a smaller environment with limited resources and staffing; ability to hit the ground running is essential
- No first-time travelers; experienced travel nurses only
- RNC-NIC (Registered Nurse Certified – Neonatal Intensive Care) certification preferred
- S.T.A.B.L.E. program certification preferred
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Pediatric or PICU experience helpful for float coverage purposes
