Study:
Peer Mentor for the Great Start (GS) Program at the University of Montevallo (UM).
Rate of Pay: $8.50 hourly.
Employment:
Part Time, Temporary (Student Appointment: Jobship and Work-Study). FLSA:
Non-Exempt.
- Help GS students transition from high school to college and promote academic success in their first year.
- Meet regularly with mentees to provide information, connections to campus resources, and foster a sense of community.
- Deliver weekly check-ins discussing campus resources, study skills, time management, organizational skills, campus involvement, and stress management.
- Maintain confidentiality of shared information.
- Assist the GS Program Coordinator in planning social and educational events.
- Attend campus events with mentees when possible.
- Utilize the Group Me app to maintain contact with mentees.
- Complete peer-mentor orientation, training, and ongoing trainings.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Meet new people.
- Share one’s knowledge and experiences as a UM student.
- Develop leadership skills.
- Build experience for your resume.
- Participate in GS program class tours and pizza party event at the beginning of the fall semester to welcome new GS students.
- Student status:
Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Full‑time student at UM. - Must have and maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- Self‑motivated, friendly, and exhibit a positive attitude.
- Desire to help students succeed.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Comfortable leading a small group of 4–5 students.
