The University of Montevallo’s Department of Nursing and Health Sciences inside the College of Health Professions invites applications for an Instructor of Exercise and Nutrition Science. The position is a full‑time, 9‑month faculty position. Assigned teaching responsibilities may include face‑to‑face, online, and blended formats and may be day or evening. Summer teaching opportunities may be available but are not required. This position is designed for a dynamic educator committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching, student mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development and delivery of curriculum that prepares students for careers in health, wellness, fitness, and nutrition‑related fields.
The Department of Nursing and Health Sciences offers graduate and undergraduate programs in Exercise and Nutrition Science. The undergraduate program consists of four concentrations:
Allied Health, Health Promotion, Nutrition and Wellness, and Strength and Conditioning. The undergraduate Strength and Conditioning concentration is Council on Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education (CASCE) accredited through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
The Department of Nursing and Health Sciences is seeking a full‑time Instructor with expertise in teaching a variety of Exercise and Nutrition Science classes to begin employment in August 2026.
The successful candidate will:
- Teach undergraduate courses in allied health, strength and conditioning, nutrition, and health promotion, based on departmental need and applicant strengths.
- Develop and revise course materials to reflect current research and best practices.
- Advise and mentor undergraduate students in academic and career planning.
- Participate in departmental service, including curriculum development, assessment, and student recruitment.
- Collaborate with faculty across the Department of Nursing and Health Sciences to support interdisciplinary initiatives.
- Engage in professional development to maintain expertise in the field.
- Be committed to the mission of a public liberal arts university.
- Master’s Degree in Exercise Science, Nutrition, or a closely related field.
- Evidence of successful teaching at the college/university level.
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Nutrition, Public Health, or a closely related field (Ph.D. or Ed.D. preferred but not required).
- Experience with online and hybrid course delivery.
- Certification(s) from recognized professional organizations (e.g., ACSM, NSCA).
- Strong foundation in exercise physiology, nutrition science, and health education.
- Ability to engage students through active learning and evidence-based pedagogy.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with academic advising and student support services.
