The purpose of this position is to coordinate tutoring services in subject areas as needed for students at the University of Montevallo. The tutoring coordinator in the Falcon Success Center ( FSC ) is responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, coordinating, and supervising quality tutors and services for academic success.

  • Identify subject areas where there is a need for tutoring
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to recruit potential peer tutors
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate peer tutors who tutor in a variety of academic subjects and on a variety of topics such as note-taking, test preparation, time management, etc. that are identified through broad-based needs assessment
  • Schedule peer tutors (one-on-one tutoring, group tutoring, and drop-in tutoring) both online and in-person
  • Perform observations and write formal evaluations of peer tutors each semester
  • Staff FSC front desk; train and supervise student assistants
  • Manage and approve payroll for student staff
  • Create and enforce policies for student staff at the FSC
  • Manage the Center’s appointment management software
  • Track tutoring data and compile reports each semester
  • Conduct outcomes assessment and use results to make continuous improvements to tutoring services
  • Serve as co-advisor for Alpha Lambda Delta, the honor society for first-year academic success
  • Attend preview days, orientation days, and other events as required to advertise tutoring services to current and prospective UM students
  • Create and conduct classroom presentations to introduce students to the academic services provided in the Center
  • Engage in appropriate professional development opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned
