General DescriptionThe purpose of this position is to communicate, provide information, and support for University Police Officers and the campus community. Assist in duties to ensure the safety and well-being of students, faculty, staff, and the public. Perform specialized duties to ensure the functionality of the Police Department.
Responsibilities- Monitor and dispatch calls to and from police officers.
- Receive and direct calls through the campus switchboard.
- Monitor fire and burglar alarms, door access, and camera systems.
- Log daily radio communications.
- Enter and maintain citations, case files, and report logs. Manage records index and files.
- Maintain campus parking registration and issue parking permits to students, faculty, contractors, and guests.
- Issue keys to Motor Pool and Physical Plant employees.
- Provide investigative assistance and research using the Alabama Criminal Justice Information System, National Criminal Information Center, and ALACOP.
- Coordinate lost and found items, and manage the return of properties.
- Answer emergency phone lines, Code Blue, and emergency call boxes. Determine nature and location of emergencies, priority, and dispatch appropriate units.
- Monitor for inclement weather conditions and report to essential personnel.
- Process requests for work orders in Flow Path.
This position is a 12-hour rotating shift.

The individual holding this position will serve as a representative of the University and, as such, shall promote a positive impression by demonstrating a collegial and professional customer-service approach at all times.
Additional Duties- Provide information to campus visitors and guests by phone or in person.
- Interact and speak with faculty, students, and visitors to promote a healthy relationship between the University Police Department and the various organizations on campus.
- Flexibility to work shifts outside the norm in emergency situations.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of University policies, rules, and regulations;
- Knowledge of the campus layout which includes streets, intersections, buildings, entries, time of use, and purposes for buildings;
- Basic knowledge of computers to include Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access;
- Knowledge of Police and Campus Security Safety Procedures;
- Knowledge of Alabama Criminal Justice Information System, National Criminal Information Center, burglar alarms, fire alarms, door access, campus notification system, Banner, Flow Path, and CPark Vehicle Registration System;
- Good customer service and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
- Ability to maintain confidential information, prioritize duties, and remain calm in volatile situations;
- Knowledge and ability to operate campus switchboard and radio communication equipment.
