The Alabama Housing Finance Authority (AHFA) was created in 1980 by Act No. 80-585 of the Alabama Legislature. AHFA is a public corporation and instrumentality of the State of Alabama dedicated to serving the housing needs of low- and moderate-income Alabamians. AHFA creates housing opportunities for low-and moderate-income Alabamians through the affordable financing of single- and multifamily housing.
Job SummaryPerforms audits and assists in maintaining accounting records as well as preparing financial statements and reports, under moderate supervision.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities- Performs several accounting tasks requiring an understanding of accounting concepts, procedures, and technical knowledge.
- Compiles codes and inputs information; maintains accounting records; analyzes accounts; monitors conformance with indentures and other agreements; reconciles accounts; calculates and inputs accruals; conducts compliance audits and performs related duties.
- Conducts special studies and assignments requiring application of accounting theory and analytical ability.
- Assists in the preparation of financial statements and reports required by the Authority, its external auditors, rating agencies and regulatory authorities.
- Maintains automated accounting and monitoring systems and uses computer resources to generate periodic reports and statements.
- Maintains and reconciles general ledger, subsidiary ledger, and demand deposit accounts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum three years work experience in the mortgage, accounting, or finance industry. Must possess knowledge of accounting, auditing, and business administration.
EducationA bachelor’s degree in Accounting or similar or related work experience.
Other SkillsMust be able to complete work efficiently, accurately and with great attention to detail. Strong mathematical skills and computer literacy are required. Ability to read and interpret regulations, laws, agreements and AHFA materials. Experience with auditing procedures and techniques are a plus.
Physical Requirements & Work EnvironmentTypical physical demands include: a high degree of manual dexterity to sufficiently perform computer functions on a keyboard, produce materials on a PC, operate basic office equipment, extensive sitting and/or walking, mobility sufficient to visit with departments or employees throughout AHFA and lift up to 25 lbs.
