Job Description
Our organization hosts a hybrid role based in Deerfield, IL. The Lead Technical Accountant will manage accounting and reporting of technical accounting matters such as leases, employee benefits, derivatives, and debt. This position is part of the Corporate Accounting team and requires strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, excellent communication skills, and collaboration with Treasury and business units.
LocationHybrid – 3 days per week in the Deerfield, IL office.
What You Will Be Doing- Review and analyze lease agreements to determine appropriate accounting treatment and record lease data.
- Collaborate with business units to ensure accurate and timely monthly lease accounting entries.
- Manage accounting and reporting for pension and other postretirement benefits.
- Lead accounting and reporting for derivative and debt transactions.
- Prepare financial statement disclosures for leases, pension/OPEB, derivatives, debt, including quarterly and annual disclosures and disclosure checklists for 10‑Q and 10‑K.
- Implement, execute, and maintain internal controls related to accounting for leases, employee benefits, derivatives, and debt to ensure SOX compliance.
- Identify and implement continuous process improvements to streamline monthly/quarterly close processes.
- Assist in other financial reporting and technical accounting projects.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 7+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including technical accounting and/or financial reporting.
- CPA required.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting rules.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software, especially lease software.
- Master’s Degree.
- Experience in public accounting.
