Alabama State University, Auxiliary Services, invites applications for the position of Mail Service Assistant. Under direct supervision of the Mail Services Supervisor, the Mail Service Assistant will assist with the distribution of incoming and outgoing mail.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Receive, sort and distribute incoming USPS and inter-campus mail, packages and express deliveries
- prepare outgoing mail and packages, including affixing postage, completing necessary forms, and arrange for shipment via appropriate carriers (USPOS, UPS, Fed Ex, etc.)
- Operate mailroom equipment such as postage meters, mail sorters, and package tracking systems
- Load and unload mail and packages, potentially involving lifting and transporting items weighing up to 70 pounds
- Assist students, faculty, and staff with mail related inquiries, such as assigning mailboxes, troubleshooting problems, and providing information about mailing options and procedures
- Providing window service, processing sales of stamps and mailing supplies, and handling cash and other transactions
- Assist with data entry for tracking systems and other records
- Perform clerical duties like filing, copying, and completing documentation of activities
- Assist with special mail related projects as assigned
High School diploma or GED, and a valid driver's license with an insurable driving record are required. Prior experience in a mailroom, customer services, or administrative role preferred with some positions potentially requiring more extensive experience.
