Salary Information
A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.
Nature of WorkThe fundamental reason that this classification exists is to perform a variety of specialized technical tasks in the Probate Judge’s office. These jobs are responsible for the technical tasks necessary for the day-to-day operations. The major responsibilities for these jobs include: preparing cases and/or documents related to area of assignment; conducting research regarding a case, performing technical duties, preparing for and attending probate hearings, preparing documentation that results from hearings, and providing services to visitors and citizens.
Probate Court Clerks are assigned a specialized area of work within the office such as commitments, guardian ships, and adoptions. Probate Court Clerks differ from other clerical positions in that specialized knowledge is required to perform these tasks. In addition, Probate Court Clerks work at a full performance level handling a variety of cases that are more difficult than the cases handled by clerical personnel in the Probate Judge’s office.
Typically, the cases that these employees handle are heard by the Judge in a hearing. The Probate Court Clerk differs from the Probate Court Clerk Supervisor in that the Supervisor is responsible for leading the workers in the office and handling the more difficult or unusual cases.
High school diploma or GED required. Two (2) years of clerical, administrative support, customer service, legal, court, licensing, and related office experience or One (1) year of clerical experience and one (1) year of court clerical experience. Experience in a probate court, courthouse or government office, preferred.
