Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to perform supervisory, technical, and administrative work directing and overseeing the activities of communications center operators and dispatchers assigned to a shift to include answering emergency and administrative calls; oversight of the delivery, or performance of, pre-arrival and post-dispatch instructions as warranted; oversight, or performing dispatching of the most appropriate emergency response personnel using a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and a land mobile radio network, training dispatchers and operators, monitoring radio and telephone traffic, quality reviews, employee evaluations, and other public safety communications supervisory duties as assigned.

This classification reports to and receives general instructions from the Emergency Communications Center Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED, and at least four (4) current years of combined E9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency telephone calls, and provide radio communications support to fire, medical, and law enforcement responders in a dispatching capacity of an organization equal in programmatic scope and geographical size comparable to the City of Montgomery.

Qualifying education, training, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Applicant must be able to type at least 35 wpm. Must be available to work any hour shifts as needed to oversee operations and ensure consistency among the shifts. Applicant must be willing to sign a willingness statement, must be willing to respond to the Emergency Communications Center to meet community service expectations, respond to and recover from disasters and other significant events, and follow the instructions of organization leadership.

The City of Montgomery's Emergency Communications Center operates 24/7, year-round. You will be required to work non-business hours, weekends, and many holidays. However, employees receive additional compensation for these inconveniences.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Emergency Communications Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based on the education and experience on the application and attached supplemental questionnaire. Applicants will be required to take a computerized skills test.

The skills test will be used to rank the top candidates.
