About BSF BSF stands for Border Security Force, which is the primary border guarding organization of India. It was established on December1, 1965, as a paramilitary force tasked with protecting India's land borders during peacetime and preventing transnational crime. The BSF operates under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Indian government and is responsible for guarding the borders of India with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
It also plays a crucial role in counter-insurgency and internal security operations, as well as disaster management and relief operations. The BSF has a strength of around 250,000 personnel, making it one of the world's largest border guarding forces. Its duties include maintaining surveillance, detecting and preventing infiltration, and checking illegal immigration and trans-border smuggling of goods, narcotics, and weapons.
The BSF also undertakes various community development programs and provides assistance to the local population in border areas.
