Theater Technical Specialist (Part-Time)
Summary of the Position: The Montgomery Academy is seeking a skilled, dynamic, and experienced Theater Technical Specialist to support our theater program. This position is primarily responsible for the execution, operation, and maintenance of theatrical lighting and sound systems for school theatrical productions in the James W. Wilson, Jr. Theater. While the core focus of this role is dedicated to lighting and audio reinforcement, candidates with an interest or skill set in assisting with basic scenic elements are highly encouraged to apply.
This is a part-time, seasonal stipend position structured around the production calendar. It is not a full-time position unless combined with another administrative or teaching duty at the school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lighting & Sound:
Execute all lighting design, cue programming, live audio mixing, and system setup/strike for 3 productions per year. - Technical Consultation:
Advise directors on technical capabilities and equipment needs prior to production weeks. - Production Run:
Remain on-site to run all technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and live performances for three productions per year. - Scenic Support (Optional):
Assist with basic set design, building, or strike as availability and skills permit.
Qualifications:
- Technical
Experience:
Proven hands‑on experience programming theatrical lighting consoles and managing live audio/wireless mic systems. - Education:
Bachelor’s degree preferred (required if paired with a teaching role); equivalent freelance/professional industry experience highly valued. - Collaboration:
Ability to work effectively with student crews and maintain a safe, collaborative backstage environment. - Communication:
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills to interface smoothly with directors and faculty.
