Position Overview
The Heersink School of Medicine, Department of Surgery is currently recruiting faculty candidates to be considered for an open‑rank, non‑tenure or tenure‑track faculty appointment in the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery.
ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be a fellowship‑trained colon and rectal surgeon with an interest in academic surgery. The role requires meeting clinical, research, and teaching needs of the Department of Surgery, with a practice focused on colorectal diseases including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, anorectal disorders, endoscopy, and other colorectal pathologies. The candidate will also support the general surgery practice of several rural hospitals in Alabama and participate in the division’s basic and clinical research activities, contributing to independent funding efforts such as those from the NIH.
Qualifications- M.D. or M.D./Ph.D.
- Outstanding leadership and high skill, widely recognized in the field.
- Strong track record in research, teaching, and/or service.
- Fellowship‑trained colon and rectal surgeon with an interest in academic surgery.
- Substantial professional work experience in one or more areas of research, teaching and/or service.
