Elementary Education Program in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin‑Madison is seeking a Mathematics Education Teaching Faculty member. The program prepares teacher candidates to deliver engaging and inclusive instruction, leveraging the strengths of students, families, and communities. It emphasizes serving learners from diverse racial, cultural, linguistic, socioeconomic, and disability backgrounds.
Primary Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate courses focused on mathematical content knowledge for teaching (25 % workload) and teaching mathematics methods (25 % workload).
- Lead seminars related to clinical field experiences, including planning and delivering practicum/student teaching seminars, supervising field supervisors, and tracking candidate progress and guiding final assessments (each seminar 25 % workload; typically one in fall, two in spring).
- Supervise teacher candidates in field placements (6–7 practicum students or 4–5 student teachers, 25 % workload).
- Participate in program‑related meetings and committees (25 % workload), such as supporting cooperating teacher recruitment, contributing to program design, and engaging in continuous improvement collaborations.
- Assess student performance and recommend instructional improvements.
- Provide classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction, including grading.
- Develop innovative instructional strategies and train staff where applicable.
- Collaborate with faculty on enhancing instructional methodologies.
- Assist in developing grant proposals for model instructional programs.
- Present teaching program updates to faculty and staff.
- Play a leadership role in defining and executing program objectives.
- Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in a PK–9 setting, preferably including mathematics.
- Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proven record of effective classroom teaching.
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity and inclusion, diversity and asset‑based perspectives, and evidence‑based teaching practices.
- Experience in teacher education at the university level.
- Background in coaching, mentoring, or professional learning.
- Previous involvement in clinical supervision or school/university/community partnerships.
- Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, or a related field (required).
- PhD or ABD in Mathematics Education (preferred).
- Salary starts at $75,000 annually.
