qualifications:
- current alabama teacher's certification, master's degree or higher with an endorsement in administration or supervision.
- at least 3 years of successful teaching experience in special education.
- extensive knowledge of and recent experience in complying with special education laws and policies.
essential duties:
- knowledge of sti sets and the development of an appropriate standards-based iep.
- ability to prepare and make presentations to various audiences.
- ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- participate in reviewing the effectiveness of programs for individuals with special needs.
- monitor inclusion and access to the core curriculum as indicated in individualized education programs (iep).
- provide supervision to special education teachers.
- develop and coordinate professional development in-services and workshops for special education teachers, administrators, and parents.
- develop a positive relationship with parents of special needs students and resolve grievances.
- prepare responses and participate in mediation of state complaints and due process hearing requests.
- serve as representative/designee of the director of special education at meetings with central office personnel, parents, and community agencies to coordinate delivery of special education services to children with special needs.
- coordinate and participate in writing proposals and agreements to provide appropriate placement alternatives for special needs students with behavior issues.
- assist with evaluations of personnel.
- assist with the preparation of idea, arra, idea preschool, and idea part b budgets.
- oversee homebound services for the district.
- monitor inventory/materials.
- perform other duties as assigned by the director of special education.
