Responsibilities- Plan, prepare, and implement engaging instructional activities in assigned subject(s) that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
- Identify, select, create, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
- Serve as the classroom supervisor for assigned students, conducting roll calls, maintaining attendance records, and ensuring order and discipline through effective classroom behavior management techniques.
- Provide a positive learning environment that encourages active engagement.
- Evaluate students, make determinations of overall progress, grade assignments and assessments, and follow all grading procedures.
- Advise and counsel students on their academic and behavioral progress.
- Collaborate with supervisors and peers to enhance the instructional environment through team teaching, meetings, professional learning, and professional learning communities.
- Communicate with students, parents/guardians, and stakeholders within established timelines.
- Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with all parties.
- Ensure continuous and appropriate growth and achievement for students.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and other stakeholders, measurable by surveys.
- Meet course and school‑wide performance goals and demonstrate gains in student performance.
- Participate in blended learning models (online and classroom instruction) across residential facilities statewide; report to an assigned facility.
- Provide instructional tutoring and services at assigned facilities under the supervision of the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ).
- Support other academic-related topics as directed by leadership.
- Demonstrate proficiency in basic technology, including software, hardware, and digital tools, and troubleshoot common issues.
- Perform all duties with efficient work habits, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources, and demonstrating respect for others.
- All work responsibilities are subject to performance goals or targets.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university.
- Valid Florida Professional Teaching Certificate in the assigned content area, or proof of active enrollment in a state‑approved EPI or MAT program and either a valid Florida Statement of Eligibility or a valid Temporary Certificate.
- Optional certifications:
Exceptional Student Education, Gifted Endorsement, ESOL Endorsement, Reading Endorsement. - Teaching experience in the subject area, completion of an FLVS instructional internship, or current enrollment in an approved EPI or MAT program.
