qualifications:

• current alabama teacher's certification, bachelor's degree or higher in esl, foreign language, english, or elementary education
• preference will be given to applicants with at least three years successful teaching experience
• preferred background experience in bilingual education, linguistics, or teaching english as a second language
• preference will be given to applicants fluent in korean or spanish as well as applicants with reading, speech pathology, or special education backgrounds
• strong oral and written communication skills

essential duties:

• assist schools in providing instructional support for english learners (el) grades k-12 (includes testing, serving on esl team to develop instructional plans, and providing information for district/state/federal reports)
• provide esl instruction to classes, small groups, and individual students
• provide support and training for content area teachers of els in assigned schools
• facilitate contacts and interactions between the student's home and the school
• participate in monthly training/planning sessions with other el teachers
• establish a positive relationship with students, parents, co-workers, volunteers, and other visitors
