FLSA Status:
This position is exempt from overtime pay and is expected to fulfill job responsibilities as needed to meet organizational goals.

Terms of Employment:
Part-Time As Needed

Compensation: $40.00 per hour

Job Summary:

The Itinerant English as a Second Language (ESL) Bilingual Paraprofessional, under the supervision of the ESL Specialist, will support multilingual learners (MLs) and families at sites with a large number of non-English-speaking students and parents. In addition to helping school personnel communicate with parents and students, paraprofessionals may provide academic support to students as well as improve family engagement at those sites by communicating with families in a language they can understand.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Fluency in English and at least one additional language (oral and written): preference given to candidates fluent in Spanish, Central American Indian Languages, or Korean.
  • High school diploma.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and skills necessary to perform the responsibilities of the position.
  • Knowledge of educational terminology and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate communication between school staff and families with interpretation and translation support.
  • Provide accurate, confidential interpretation services during:
    • Parent-teacher conferences and other district meetings
    • Enrollment and registration
    • School events and family workshops
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Submit documentation of services provided, as required by the district.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in the support of students and families.
  • Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state/federal rules and regulations.

  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills with students, families, staff, and community partners.

  • Demonstrates respect for diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Maintains professional conduct and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Promotes an inclusive and equitable environment for students, families, and staff.

Accuracy and Attention to Detail

  • Completes documentation, reports, and records accurately and within established timelines.
  • Ensures information is communicated clearly and without omission or distortion.
  • Maintains compliance with district policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Employees. Evaluation will be conducted by the ESL Education Specialist or their designee.
