POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR ST. CLAIR COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM

Board Approved December 17, 2018

TITLE: ESL Teacher

JOB GOAL: To coordinate the assessment, placement, and instruction of ESL students in a designated service area. To serve as a resource to the staff and faculty at each of the schools in the assigned area through large group in-service and individual consultations. To work collaboratively with the Federal Programs Coordinator to develop program guidelines and to compile program data.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Principal and Federal Programs Coordinator

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Possess and maintain a valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate
  • Certification in English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, effective classroom practices, and professional development
  • Good public relations skills
  • Ability to understand the unique needs and learning characteristics of students
  • Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No.
  • Knowledge and ability to use and facilitate the use of various forms of education technology to assist in instructional practices
  • Superior leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills and ability to be an instructional leader across multiple settings. Must work collaboratively as a team member with large and/or diverse groups
  • Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities
  • Proficiency in oral, written, and electronic communications with the ability to produce, lead, and deliver presentations to various stakeholders
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons and professional development based on system and state courses of study and the needs and abilities of students
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, teachers, parents, and administrators
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance

  • Conducts in-service training for classroom teachers, administrators, and support personnel regarding ESL
  • Schedules meetings of the ESL team to review pertinent information and make recommendations concerning the placement of each student in the ESL
  • Monitors the academic progress of all ESL students in the regular program and makes recommendations to the regular classroom teachers concerning instructional modifications for ESL
  • Provides ESL instruction to K-12 ESL
  • Utilizes technology to plan and provide instruction and facilitate student
  • Attends professional development training each year regarding ESL programs enrolled in the designated service
  • Collaborates with the Federal Programs Coordinator in maintaining the summer migrant
  • Administers placement tests and spring ACCESS assessments to ESL students in the designated service
