MEP Superintendent - Data Center Projects
Job Description
This role serves as a Superintendent focused on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems for large-scale data center projects. The position oversees the installation, coordination, and integration of complex building systems on projects approaching $1B in value, with a significant emphasis on mission-critical infrastructure. The Superintendent manages subcontractors, drives schedule adherence using Critical Path Method (CPM), and ensures successful commissioning and turnover of highly technical facilities.
Responsibilities
+ Oversee the installation and coordination of mechanical systems, including HVAC, ductwork, chilled water, and piping across large-scale data center projects.
+ Manage the installation and integration of electrical systems such as power distribution, switch gear, generators, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.
+ Supervise the installation of plumbing and piping systems, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
+ Manage and direct MEP subcontractors on site, providing clear guidance, resolving issues, and ensuring proper execution of all building systems.
+ Coordinate multiple MEP trades to support seamless system integration, from rough-in through start-up, testing, commissioning, and final turnover.
+ Lead and participate in coordination meetings to address schedule impacts, trade interfaces, and critical milestones related to MEP work.
+ Develop, manage, and track project schedules using Critical Path Method (CPM), ensuring that MEP activities align with overall project timelines.
+ Monitor field progress, identify risks or delays, and proactively implement corrective actions to keep MEP work on schedule.
+ Support commissioning activities by coordinating system start-up, testing, and verification of MEP systems performance in mission-critical environments.
+ Facilitate communication between construction, operations, and client stakeholders to ensure MEP systems meet operational requirements and project goals.
+ Ensure adherence to project safety protocols and quality standards for all MEP-related activities.
+ Contribute to project documentation, including as-built information, turnover packages, and system handover requirements.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial construction, with at least 2 years in a Superintendent or similar supervisory role overseeing field activities.
+ Proven experience managing or overseeing installation of MEP building systems, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
+ Strong background in electrical and/or mechanical systems such as power distribution, HVAC, piping, and controls.
+ Experience supervising installation of major MEP systems, including electrical distribution (switch gear, generators, UPS), mechanical systems (chilled water, HVAC, ductwork), and plumbing/piping systems.
+ Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple MEP trades and drive system integration through testing and commissioning.
+ Experience managing project schedules using Critical Path Method (CPM), including understanding float, critical path activities, and schedule recovery strategies.
+ Strong understanding of sequencing, coordination, and system turnover in large-scale construction environments.
+
Experience with mission-critical or highly complex projects such as data centers, hospitals, airports, or similar facilities.
+ Ability to lead discussions around schedule impacts, coordination issues, and key milestones with project stakeholders.
+ Solid construction management skills, including field supervision, subcontractor management, and adherence to project specifications.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Data center project experience, particularly in mission-critical environments, is highly preferred.
+ background in hospital construction, aviation projects, or other large, complex facilities is beneficial.
+ PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent project management certification is preferred.
+ Other relevant certifications in electrical, mechanical, or construction management disciplines are an advantage.
+ Experience in MEP-focused superintendent roles within commercial construction environments.
+ Familiarity with low-voltage scopes, controls, and systems integration is helpful for mission-critical facilities.
+ Interest in long-term career growth into senior superintendent, project management, or mission-critical specialist roles.
Work Environment
The role supports mission-critical facilities, with a primary focus on large-scale data center projects of approximately $1B in value. Work takes place within a services-focused division dedicated to facility operations, maintenance, lifecycle upgrades, and fast-paced technical projects rather than new ground-up construction. The environment emphasizes ongoing improvements, system upgrades, and low-voltage scopes that keep critical environments running reliably.…
