ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST ICF is seeking an experienced Environmental Specialist to support a Department of War (DOW) contract and team based in Huntsville, Alabama.
The team provides comprehensive environmental management support to the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) including air permitting, regulatory environmental compliance, environmental impact analysis, planning, policy and strategy development, sustainability, conservation, and related technical assistance for all agency missions, weapons system acquisition, development, testing, deployment, and fielding at geographically dispersed locations worldwide. This position is based in Huntsville, Alabama with travel required for specific project work throughout the United States and abroad (generally less than 25%).
The role requires working onsite in a federal government facility Monday through Thursday, with situational telework authorized on Fridays subject to change based on client requirements. Candidates must possess DoD Secret security clearance or have the ability to obtain clearance upon hire.
- Support and execute air emissions modeling and permitting.
- Conduct environmental compliance audits related to DOW system testing.
- Develop and analyze environmental policies, studies, and assessments including NEPA.
- Plan, design, construct, operate, and sustain facilities.
- Serve as subject‑matter and regulatory expert on complex environmental planning, management, and compliance initiatives.
- Prepare air emission calculations and permit applications for generators and boilers.
- Develop strategies related to environmental planning, management, and compliance.
- Support multiple concurrent high‑priority environmental projects.
- Identify problems, develop sound solutions, and present recommendations to the team for approval and implementation.
- Interact directly with the client on a daily basis.
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related engineering/science field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional environmental work experience.
- Experience preparing air emission calculations and permit applications for emergency/prime power diesel‑ or natural gas‑fired generators and boilers.
- Strong environmental regulatory background with experience in CAA, RCRA, and NEPA, including preparing Environmental Assessments (EAs), Impact Statements (EIS), and supporting documents.
- Experience conducting multi‑media environmental compliance audits.
- Experience in Environmental Management Systems (EMS) implementation and maintaining conformance.
- Strong verbal and written communication and computer skills, with the ability to work independently/minimal direct supervision.
- Physical ability to work in the field, outdoors, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- U.S. citizenship.
- DoD Secret security clearance or ability to obtain one.
- Master’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field (preferred).
- Prior military or federal consulting experience (preferred).
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license and/or other relevant environmental credentials such as CHMM, PG, or CPEA (preferred).
$73,738.00 – $ (Alabama Client Office AL88)
