Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations.

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to direct and administer the City’s land use control element and to serve as executive secretary to the Planning Commission, the Board of Adjustment, Architectural Review Board, and the Historical Development Commission.

• Supervises the work of support staff in the day-to-day operations of the Land Use Control Division.
• Provides advice and assistance to individuals and groups in understanding and administering zoning ordinances and subdivision regulations using land use plans and the text documentation of the zoning ordinance.
• Directs the preparation of the divisional budget and oversees expenditures.
• Supervises enforcement of City Land Use Control Ordinances and Regulations.
• Assists in the development of the comprehensive Land Use Plan.

Work is performed under the direction of the City Development Director.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Planning, Urban Planning, Public Administration, Geography, or a related field.

Five years of municipal planning and land use development experience, including two years of supervisory experience.

NOTE:

Qualifying education, training, and experience that provide requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Must be willing to attend numerous public evening meetings that occur weekly.

This position is open only to City of Montgomery Planning Department employees who have completed their probationary period and meet the minimum qualifications.
