American Traveler is seeking a Med Surg RN for an ER Hold position with night shifts and telemetry experience in a Level II Trauma setting.

Job Details

• Work in the ER Hold area of a hospital caring for Med Surg patients with admission orders,

• Patient population includes CHF exacerbation, TIA/CVA rule outs, GI/GU cases, weakness, dizziness, and chest pain,

• Typical patient ratio is 1:5,

• Shift is 12-hour nights (7:00pm-7:00am) with every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month if block scheduled,

• Unit uses Cerner EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell for medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors,

• Floating required to similar units as needed (MS-MS, MS-ICU, MS-ER/MS holds, etc.),

• No on-call required,

• Level II Trauma Center environment,

Job Requirements

• Active AL or compact RN license required,

• BLS, NIHSS, and CPI or equivalent required; ACLS preferred,

• At least 18 months of Med Surg experience required,

• Experience with Cerner or Epic EMR and Level II Trauma Center preferred,

• Strong skills in assessment, prioritization, communication, and documentation,

• Proficiency in IV starts, blood administration, suctioning, O2 therapy, ostomy and Foley care, PEG/NGT care, wound and chest tube care, and restraint management,

• Must be able to manage care for a variety of acute medical patients,

• No local candidates within 60 miles accepted,

• Perm staff must wait at least 6 months to return as travelers,

Additional Information

• Role focuses on caring for Med Surg patients in an ER setting and facilitating transitions from ER to inpatient units,

• Support includes CNAs, receptionist/HUC, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalists,

• Telemetry monitoring is required,

• Orientation includes 24 hours classroom and 24 hours on unit for new or returning travelers (if gone 1+ years),

• One major and one minor holiday coverage expected per policy, subject to blackout periods for certain holidays,

• Scrubs may be any color,

• Free parking available,

• First-time travelers accepted with at least 2 years of experience and appropriate EMR and trauma experience,

• Time off may be approved up to 7 days excluding blackout dates,
