IT Specialist - Systems Administrator

Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for two full‑time Information Technology (IT) Specialists (GS‑2210‑12), System Administrators, to work at Headquarters Air Force, Air Force Legal Information Services, Maxwell Air Force Base (AFB), Montgomery, Alabama. Depending on the type of position, the selected candidate will serve a one‑year probationary period or a two‑year trial period. Salary ranges from $89,508 to $116,362, based on experience.

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain Information Assurance certification within six months of assigned duties.
• Manage all aspects of information systems for the Judge Advocate Corps, providing implementation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware, software, and cloud systems to support Legal Information Services networked systems.

• Serve as Senior System Administrator and technical advisor – implement cybersecurity across networks and the cloud, mentor users, and liaise with industry partners.

• Routine patch management – STIGs, IAVAs, TCNOs; vulnerability scanning – ACAS/Nessus; hypervisors management – VMware, Hyper‑V.
• Modern container orchestration – Kubernetes, Docker; centralized log aggregation – Splunk, syslog.
• Database maintenance – SQL, Oracle.
• Knowledge of IT systems analysis, network, cloud, and applications software concepts, functions, techniques, and capabilities sufficient to evaluate new and emerging IT security methods and principles, the feasibility of proposed new systems and applications software projects; and to design, write, test, debug, and maintain information systems and applications software and ensure successful integration with existing and anticipated infrastructure in the database environment.
• Knowledge of IT security systems, tools, protocols, firewalls, network, and cloud security; knowledge of IT management information systems, cloud, networks, and applications software technology to isolate causes of problems between hardware, system, and applications software programs and to measure system performance and/or extend operating system capabilities to support organizational business processes and operations.
• Knowledge of IT management information systems requirements and application software development techniques required in carrying out project assignments of considerable difficulty and with little specificity regarding approach to be followed; knowledge of support principles sufficient to receive, respond to, and ensure complete resolution of problems.
• Skill and ability to maintain an up‑to‑date awareness of technological advances and predict how management can meet future requirements: skill to design and develop integrated plans to implement and maintain mission systems, applications, and new technologies within in‑garrison and unprecedented deployed scenarios.
• Ability to determine application and systems performance, troubleshoot issues affecting performance, and develop immediate fixes or workarounds to overcome shortfalls; ability to modify and adapt precedent solutions to unique or specialized requirements.
• Ability to stay well informed on rapidly changing technology, to evaluate its possible impact on organization missions, and to develop plans to satisfy requirements. You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
