Alabama State University invites applications for the full-time, tenure-track position of Digital Humanities/User Services Librarian - Assistant Professor. Reporting to the Administrative Head Coordinator for Public, Technical, and Assessment Services, the incumbent will collaborate with archivists, public service librarians, and information technology personnel to develop, manage, and expand the University’s digital collections, discovery services, and access services operations.

This position plays a central role in shaping digital access, metadata creation, digitization workflows, and user-centered innovations across the LWLC’s digital platforms. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, forward-thinking professional committed to designing accessible, discoverable, and sustainable digital content and services for the University community.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily digitization workflows, including imaging, color management, and quality control.
  • Schedule, train, and supervise digitization team members.
  • Digitize library, humanities, and archival materials.
  • Manage quality control for scanned and born digital items.
  • Track digitization statistics and analyze usage and technological needs.
  • Coordinate digital collection workflows and ingest processes.
  • Maintain digitization priority lists.
  • Design and document efficient digital production workflows.
  • Develop and maintain policies and documentation for digitization best practices.
  • Improve discoverability, usability, and preservation of digital assets.
  • Recommend and maintain digitization hardware and software.
  • Partner with IT to integrate AI and emerging technologies.
  • Provide support and instruction for makerspace equipment.
  • Participate in scholarly communication and digital scholarship outreach.
  • Promote digital initiatives and innovations.
  • Supervise Special Collections and circulation operations.
  • Provide in-person and virtual reference services.
  • Serve as a subject liaison for assigned programs.
  • Participate in departmental planning and committees.
  • Select, recommend, and acquire materials for Special Collections.
  • Maintain the Special Collections Department’s programs, displays, and public service desks.
  • Engage in scholarly activities and service.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Master's degree in library and information science (MLS/MLIS) or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution with at least two years of experience in academic librarianship, ILS management, digitization, metadata creation, and data curation, strong computer literacy skills and comfort working with digital technologies and metadata standards, excellent communication and teaching skills, the ability to take initiative, work both independently and collaboratively, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines, and be able to lift boxes and exhibit props as required for digitization and access services tasks.
