Systems Administrator, Journeyman

The Global Force Management Data Initiative (GFM‑DI) is a Joint Staff and OSW initiative to standardize force structure data. This position supports AFLCMC/GBB.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide systems administration support, including analysis, procedural competency, and process improvement strategies.
  • Configure and maintain daily operations of systems.
  • Optimize system performance and resource utilization.
  • Monitor and maintain Amazon Web Services and Atlassian Toolsuite.
Required Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in the technical discipline, including at least 3 years with the DoW, or
    7 years of directly related experience with proper certifications, including at least 5 years with the DoW.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Hands‑on experience administering systems in AWS Gov Cloud or AWS commercial environments (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, VPC, Cloud Watch, Cloud Trail).
  • Security group and network configuration.
  • Backup, patching, and system hardening.
  • Support for Git Lab (self‑hosted or cloud):
    • CI/CD pipeline configuration.
    • Runner management.
    • Repository access control.
  • Strong understanding of Linux system administration (RHEL, Amazon Linux, or Ubuntu).
  • Infrastructure automation experience (Cloud Formation, Terraform, or similar).
  • Support for secure software development environments and enforcement of DoW cybersecurity controls.
Cloud & Dev Sec Ops  Skills
  • Experience with AWS Gov Cloud, cross‑account roles, and secure data flows.
  • Familiarity with Git Lab CI/CD security scanning (SAST, DAST, dependency, container).
  • Experience with Docker and containerized application deployment.
  • Experience with Kubernetes (EKS) or other orchestration platforms.
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust principles and DoW cloud security requirements.
Data & Integration Skills (GFM‑DI Relevant)
  • Experience with data validation, transformation, and standardization workflows.
  • Familiarity with structured data formats (XML, JSON) and API‑based data exchange.
  • Understanding of authoritative data sources and enterprise data pipelines.
Certifications
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate.
  • AWS Certified Sys Ops Administrator.
  • Linux+ or RHCSA.
  • Git Lab Certified Associate.
  • ITIL Foundation.
Mission & Environment Experience
  • Prior experience supporting Air Force enterprise systems, ACAT programs, or sustainment environments.
  • Experience in agile development or Dev Sec Ops  teams.
  • Strong documentation skills for cloud architectures, system configurations, and operational procedures.
Security Clearance
  • Active Secret clearance required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience importing/exporting databases and data migration/conversion.
  • Experience maintaining Atlassian and CI/CD tools (Jira, Jira Service Desk, Confluence, Bitbucket, Artifactory, Jenkins, Maven, MS Build, Gradle, Sonar Qube, Checkmarx, or equivalents).
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Script Runner, SIL).
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and tools, e.g., Kanban.
Desired Qualifications
  • CompTIA Security+.
  • Experience in AWS and/or Azure Gov Cloud (specifically Cloud One).
