Job SummaryThe Interpreter provides interpreting and translation services for Spanish-speaking patients s role serves as a vital liaison between HSI staff, patients, and their caregivers, while also serving as a resource person to help medical staff better understand patient needs.
Essential FunctionsConvey accurate and unbiased translation of information to patients and/or their caregivers needing assistance, including direct conversations and written documents.
Facilitate effective communication between patients and medical staff.
Maintain strict patient confidentiality in compliance with current HIPAA regulations.
Familiarize new, non-English speaking patients with HSI facilities and available services.
Assist as needed with patient registration and processing.
Work collaboratively with staff to schedule patient appointments.
Use language and terminology most readily understood by the individual being served.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Language Proficiency: Fluency in Spanish and English (reading, writing, and speaking).
Testing Requirement: Must achieve a passing score on the HSI Interpreter Test and pass an annual language proficiency test.
Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with the public and interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Professional mannerism, strong initiative, good report, and dedication to functioning in the best interest of HSI.
Physical Demands: Regular combination of sitting, standing, walking, speaking, and listening.
