District English Second Language Bilingual Family Liaison

Reports To: ESL Education Specialist

Department: Academics and Accountability

FLSA Status: This position is exempt from overtime pay and is expected to fulfill job responsibilities as needed to meet organizational goals.

Terms of Employment: 9 Months (187 Days)

Compensation: 23,092 - 26,565

Job Summary

Montgomery Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified and motivated professional to serve as a District English Second Language Family Liaison and Interpreter within the Office of Academics and Accountability. This position plays a vital role in supporting multilingual learners (MLs), their families, and schools by ensuring effective communication, compliance with federal and state requirements, and the delivery of equitable instructional support services across the district.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree or higher from an accredited institution in education, interpretation, linguistics, or a related field
  • Proficiency in English and at least one other language (Spanish preferred; additional languages beneficial)
  • Three (3) years of successful experience working with English Learners (ELs), bilingual education, or interpretation services
  • Strong knowledge of Title III, ESSA requirements, and Alabama ESL regulations
  • Excellent communication, cultural competency, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in interpretation/translation or relevant professional credentials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate communication between school staff and families with interpretation and translation support.
  • Provide accurate, confidential interpretation services during:
  • Parent-teacher conferences and other district meetings
  • Enrollment and registration
  • School events and family workshops
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Submit documentation of services provided, as required by the district.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in the support of students and families.
  • Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state/federal rules and regulations.

  • Promotes an inclusive and equitable environment for students, families, and staff.
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail
  • Completes documentation, reports, and records accurately and within established timelines.
  • Ensures information is communicated clearly and without omission or distortion.
  • Maintains compliance with district policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Employees. Evaluation will be conducted by the ESL Education Specialist or their designee.

(The funding for and duration of this position are finite, pursuant to the Students First Act of 2011, Section 4(3)(b), tenure may not be gained by time served in this position.)
