Duties
Help
At the full performance level, you will serve as the primary support specialist for discovery in criminal cases by utilizing automated litigation support (ALS) software applications and other resources to organize, review, analyze and compile information for a variety of criminal cases. If selected for this position, you will receive formal and/or on-the-job training, as needed.
Duties include:
- Providing technical assistance to Assistant United States Attorney's (AUSA's) in facilitating the management of incoming and outgoing document discovery in accordance with e-Discovery and other procedural requirements.
- Assists in eliciting the most complete and useful response from law enforcement agencies, witnesses, victims, and subpoena recipients for discovery purposes.
- Identifies, recommends, and utilizes the optimal software application for the compilation, analysis, and presentation of evidence, such as Eclipse, Relativity, Everlaw, Trial Director, Case Map, Time Map, and PowerPoint, based upon the platforms effectiveness in (1) facilitating the analysis, storage, and retrieval of critical information, (2) presenting complex and voluminous evidence, (3) producing graphic demonstrative evidence, and (4) meeting individual user needs.
- Assists and/or trains attorneys and legal support staff in organizing and processing voluminous case information for efficient retrieval through automated means such as scanning, indexing, and organizing documents in a data base.
- Utilizes a variety of Automated Litigation Support (ALS) software applications to locate, organize, analyze, characterize, and present information that is pertinent to the government=s position in the case.
- Works with AUSAs, paralegals, agency counsel and agency staff to recommend the most effective ALS strategy to meet litigation needs early in the case
- Prepares exhibits for legal proceedings, which may involve a wide range of visual materials including charts, diagrams, photographs, and models.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of trial-related documents, e.g., witness lists, exhibit lists, jury instructions, and subpoenas, by applying a thorough knowledge of the Federal Rules of Evidence and Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure and by application of practical legal experience.
