Responsible for the oversight and management of the day-to-day operations of the department. Works with both, staff and patients to promote a healthy and safe work environment. Enforces evidence-based policies, procedures and standards of care. Supervises staff; assists in selection of personnel for hire; performance management, and makes recommendations on discipline and termination. Responsible for executing strategic initiatives including but not limited to scheduling of cases, supplies and equipment, case turn over, intra-departmental handoffs or patient discharge process.

• Supports established goals and objectives that support overall strategic plans of the facility
• Monitors the annual department operating and capital budgets
• Supervises daily operations of assigned department/s
• Supervises performance of staff
• Demonstrates objectivity in decision making, utilizing facts to support decisions
• Supports the mission statement, policies and procedures
• Participates in eliminating boundaries to achieve integrated, efficient and quality service
• Achieves ongoing compliance with all regulatory agencies
• Serves as a resource to employees and customers as demonstrated by visibility and knowledge of issues

• Assists in selection of personnel for hire and promotion; takes appropriate actions regarding counseling, disciplinary actions, demotion and termination

• Minimizes staff turnover

• Completes schedules to insure an appropriate level of staffing
• Functions as a staff person as necessary
• Maintains appropriate supply levels
• Maintains accurate records of all procedures performed
• Oversees students and other hospital employees visiting the area
• Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
• Participates in Performance Improvement activities
