A Day in the Life Set up and run multiple CNC and conventional machines (mills, lathes, grinders, and more) while holding tight tolerances per engineering drawings.
Adjust and verify control parameters—feeds, speeds, and overrides—to ensure stable, repeatable machining.
Use controller commands and codes to recover programs, restart cycles, and respond to alarms as needed.
Interpret STERIS engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles; follow travelers, work instructions, and other documented processes.
Inspect thoroughly using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision metrology tools to confirm in-process and final dimensions.
Work safely every shift: wear required PPE and follow all safety rules.
Maintain a clean, orderly workstation using 5S and Lean practices; immediately report hazards, irregularities, or discrepancies.
Complete assignments on schedule without compromising safety or quality.
Follow company policies and standards of conduct as communicated via handbook, bulletin boards, newsletters, and other STERIS communications.
Monitor tool life, identify premature insert/tool wear, and take corrective action to sustain quality and uptime.
Assist in the training and onboarding of other operators as needed.
Schedule Choose from two fixed shifts: 7:00am–3:00pm Monday–Friday, or 11:00pm–7:00am Sunday–Thursday.
What You Bring High school diploma or GED required; technical degree preferred.
Minimum two years of machinist experience.
Proven ability to set up and operate CNC and manual lathes and mills.
Strong blueprint reading, including GD&T and production specifications.
Proficiency with precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges).Solid math aptitude and a relentless focus on quality and sound decision-making.
Clear communication skills with peers and leadership; effective teamwork.
Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions and adapt to changing priorities.
Willingness to work overtime when required.
Preferred: familiarity with Lean tools such as 5S, Kanban, Visual Management, waste reduction, and root cause problem solving.
