Job DescriptionAt Piper & Leaf Tea Co., you are the Team Captain of our tea blending and manufacturing operations. You are the critical link between raw, artisanal ingredients and the final product that our guests love. Your purpose is to "Serve the Joy" by ensuring that every batch of tea meets our uncompromising quality standards, that our production machinery runs flawlessly, and that your team operates in a safe and accountable environment.
EssentialResponsibilities
Your mission is to lead the production floor with an eye for detail and a drive for execution. You will perform the following duties with precision:
- Lead tea blending according to company standards and precise ratios while maintaining confidentiality of proprietary recipes.
- Perform regular quality control checks on raw ingredients and finished blends, identifying inconsistencies before they reach the customer.
- Actively monitor ingredient usage to minimize waste and maximize yield without compromising quality.
- Operate essential production machinery, including the tea bagger/enveloper.
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot minor mechanical issues, and coordinate major repairs with vendors.
- Train, schedule, and supervise production staff while empowering them with the “why” behind processes.
- Partner with leadership to develop and implement structured training programs.
- Build culture by maintaining a supportive environment that upholds Piper & Leaf's Code of Conduct and quality standards.
- Conduct weekly shift huddles to communicate production plans, address bottlenecks, and celebrate successes.
- Manage inventory levels of raw botanicals, teas, and packaging materials; conduct accurate physical audits.
- Forecast production needs and communicate supply shortages to the procurement team.
- Ensure batch tracking, inventory reporting, and production logs are accurate and consistent.
- Align cross‑department schedule with Production, Farm, Fulfillment, and Sales teams.
- Provide regular updates, performance metrics, and operational insights to leadership.
- Identify and champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, productivity, and safety.

To perform this job successfully, you must be able to withstand the physical realities of a high‑volume kitchen production environment.
- Endurance: stand and walk for long periods on hard surfaces.
- Heavy lifting: safely relocate loads up to 60 lbs independently.
- Mobility: frequent use of ladders, stairs, and ramps.
- Repetitive motion: dexterous use of wrists, spine, and upper extremities; precise hand‑eye coordination required around fast‑moving equipment.
- Sensory: distinguish subtle differences in flavors, odors, and visual cues for quality control.
- Airborne particulates: work with raw herbs, fruits, dairy, nuts, and fine tea dust; tolerance for high levels of botanical particulates.
- Environmental hazards: safe operation around hot equipment, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, and varying temperatures.
- Schedule:
weekdays with a 30–40 hour work week and flexibility for morning/afternoon shifts. - Adaptability: adjust to seasonal harvest and order needs.
- Engagement: attend required team meetings, huddles, and training sessions.
