Function/Position Description

Under general supervision, fits and welds fabricated steel frames and/or metal parts on the production floor using MIG welding equipment. Measures and marks locations for metal components on the assembly table following blueprints. Verifies the position of metal components in the assembly using a straight edge, combination square and rule.

Job Duties

Sets up work; adjusts and uses torch, plasma cutter, and/or grinder properly in standard/non-standard positions following engineering drawings and blueprints. Fits, tacks and welds complete assemblies or fits and tacks designated spots to secure work pieces for other welders. May use basic hand tools, such as tape measure, square, clamps, etc., to verify proper weld application and quality of weldments. Operates material handling equipment and operates safely within company safety policies and procedures.

Completes product weldments to current acceptable standards in a timely manner and checks work to ensure proper weld application and quality of weldments. Performs troubleshooting and problem solving as required and may assist with special projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High school diploma or GED certificate preferred.
  • 1–2 years' experience working at SII, preferred or equivalent weld/fabrication environment.
  • Previous education or experience in MIG welding required.
  • Ability to read blueprints with ANSI weld symbols and specifications.
  • Ability to lift, push or pull 50+ lbs. on a regular basis for 8–10 hour shifts, with continuous standing.
  • Capable of performing standard measurements. Good shop‑math skills.
  • Understands basic procedure of voltage and amp settings for given requirements.
  • Able to work overtime and/or weekends as scheduled.
  • Physical ability to wear welding hood and required personal protective equipment, including welding helmet, gloves, protective apron, leather attire, steel‑toe shoes, and fresh‑air/forced‑air respirator as required.
