Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Night ICU position with a 1:2 patient ratio and advanced critical care skills in a Level II Trauma Center.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a hospital ICU environment within a Level II Trauma Center
  • May be assigned to General Cardiac, CVICU, MICU, Neuro ICU, or Surgical ICU upon orientation
  • Patient population includes cardiac, neuro, post-surgical, trauma, respiratory failure, sepsis, and critical care cases
  • 12-hour night shifts starting at 7:00 pm with a 6-week schedule cycle
  • Every other weekend rotation, with the possibility of back-to-back weekends on rare occasions
  • Floating required within similar ICU and medical/surgical units
  • Uses Cerner EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
  • Support staff includes CNA (1:10), phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, charge nurse, and hospitalist
  • No on-call requirements
  • Daily responsibilities include managing complex ICU patients and performing advanced life-support procedures
  • RNs are responsible for both clinical care and telemetry monitoring
  • First-time travelers accepted if all experience and EMR requirements are met
  • Orientation includes 24 hours classroom and 24 hours unit training for new or returning travelers away 1+ years
  • One major and one minor holiday coverage per policy required
  • Time off up to 7 days may be approved, excluding specified blackout dates
  • Scrub color is flexible; any color is acceptable
  • Staff parking available on campus
Requirements
  • Active AL or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
  • Experience with Cerner or Epic EMR required
  • Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • Advanced critical care skills including vent care, hemodynamic monitoring, medication titrations, arterial line, CRRT, IABP, Impella, EKOS, Swan ganz catheter, Flo Trac, chest tubes, and hypothermia protocol
  • Ability to read and interpret ICU-level telemetry strips
  • Past permanent staff must wait at least 6 months before returning as a traveler
  • No local candidates within a 60-mile radius
