Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Emergency Department position in a Level II Trauma Center with a minimum of two years of critical care experience and Cerner EMR proficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a high-acuity Emergency Department with 71 beds at a Level II Trauma Center
  • Patient population includes multisystem trauma, STEMI, stroke, CHF, COPD, GI, GU, OB/GYN, pediatrics, and psychiatric cases
  • Patient ratios are 1:4 for ER, 1:5 for medical-surgical holds, and 1:3 for ICU holds
  • Shift start times available: 7a-7p, 7p-7a, 11a-11p, 3p-3a with 12-hour shifts
  • Weekend rotation required: every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month with block scheduling
  • No floating required
  • No on-call responsibility
  • Cerner EMR is used and proficiency is required
  • Utilizes Plum 360 IV pumps, Spacelabs monitors, and Omnicell medication dispensing
  • Unit is supported by CNAs (1:12 ratio), a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy staff until 0300, and an IV/VAT team
  • First-time travelers are welcome with at least 2 years of experience and required EMR and trauma exposure
  • Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per facility policy
  • Orientation consists of 24 hours of classroom and 24 hours of unit-based training for new or returning travelers not onsite within the last year
  • Scrub attire may be any solid color
  • Free parking available in a parking garage
  • No telemetry monitoring techs present on the unit
  • Time off may be approved for up to 7 days, excluding blackout dates
Requirements
  • Active AL or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC, and Secure/CPI (JACHO-accepted) certifications
  • At least 2 years of critical care experience (ICU or ER), with the most recent year in a Level II ER
  • Cerner or Epic EMR experience required
  • Strong skills in trach and vent care, ICU drip and maintenance, chest tube, art line, CVL, PICC, midline, port, foley, splint/ortho device application, bipap/high flow, and continuous bladder irrigation
  • Perm staff must wait 6 months after employment before being considered as a traveler
  • Must live more than 60 miles from the facility
