Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months.

• 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Epic is preferred.

• Experience with Cerner is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role will require floating to multiple units

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >60 miles from facility to be submitted.

• 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program:

Required Skills/

Experience:

- First-time travelers accepted with a minimum of 18 months of Med Surg and/or ICU experience with Epic or Cerner experience; if strictly ICU experience, Cerner is required.

Preferred Skills/

Experience:

- Chemo experience highly preferred for 5 North Med Surg/Oncology.

Special Requests:

- You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit and shift at the same facility). If you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit and facility.

- Staff must be gone for 6 months before returning as a traveler, measured from last shift worked to start date.

- Up to 7 days off can be approved, excluding blackout dates; blackout dates require NM/Eanh approval.

- Holiday dates are not contractually guaranteed off prior to arrival.

Unit Details:

- Float pool covers trauma/surgical, neuroscience, Med Surg/oncology, clinical decision, orthopedics, and MS/ortho/urology patient populations, including general surgery and vascular surgeries; CVA, TBI, seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative diseases, post-trauma, angiogram; palliative care, ETOH withdrawal, MS/oncology; COPD, CHF, diabetes, MRSA, VRE, C-Diff, COVID, pneumonia, renal failure, sepsis, UTI, end-of-life comfort; orthopedic and spine cases such as joint replacements, fractures, fusions, and laminectomies;

and urology/ENT.

- Ratios vary by unit: 1:5-6 on 6 North Trauma Surgical, 5 South Neuroscience, 4 South Clinical Decision Unit, and 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology; 1:6 on 5 North Med Surg/Oncology; 1:5 on 3 South Orthopedics, 1:6 if Med Surg.

- Unit skills/procedures include wound care, chest tubes, NGT/PEG care, IV starts, central line blood draws and dressing changes, trach care, ostomy care, surgical site care, C-collar management, abdominal binders, restraints, suctioning, O2 therapy, external catheter care, pressure ulcer management, PCA pumps, negative pressure dressings, hemovac/JP drains, and chemo administration if certified.

- Tele monitoring is done on hallway monitors and by telemetry techs; RNs must interpret and confirm strip readings q4 hours.

- Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors.

Shift & Scheduling:

- Weekend rotation is every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month.

- No call.

- One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy.
