- One year of recent experience as an OR RN
- Valid RN license in the state of Alabama
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
- ACLS, PALS, or ENPC certifications
- CNOR OR Nursing certification
- Other related certifications and licenses
The OR RN provides comprehensive patient care throughout the perioperative process, ensuring safety and comfort during surgical procedures. Responsibilities include preparing the OR, managing surgical equipment, collaborating with the surgical team, and maintaining high standards of patient safety, infection control, and professional ethics.
Essential Work Functions- Prepares the operating room by ensuring all required instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies are ready and functional for each surgical procedure
- Assists in positioning and preparing patients for surgery, addressing concerns and ensuring comfort and safety according to procedural requirements
- Maintains a sterile field throughout surgical procedures and adheres to infection control protocols and sterile technique
- Anticipates the needs of the surgical team, providing instruments, supplies, and support promptly to maintain efficient workflow
- Monitors the patient's condition during surgery, documenting significant changes and notifying the surgeon
- Handles surgical instruments and supplies, ensuring their proper use, sterilization, and disposal according to facility protocols
- Manages specimen collection, labeling, and transport according to facility protocols, ensuring accurate diagnostic results
- Documents all aspects of patient care in the perioperative setting accurately and thoroughly
- Participates in patient handoff communication during pre‑ and post‑operative phases, ensuring continuity of care
- Assists in cleaning and restocking the operating room between cases, adhering to infection control and turnover protocols
- Collaborates with the surgical team to ensure compliance with facility policies, procedures, and standards
- Follows hospital safety rules and procedures, including proper use of PPE and infection prevention measures
- Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
- Ability to read/write written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
- Physical abilities – remain in a stationary position, move equipment 50‑100 lbs, push, pull, bend
- Interpersonal skills – work effectively with a variety of personnel to present a positive attitude and professionalism
- Technical/motor skills – grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using departmental equipment
- Mental requirements – cope with frequent contact with the public, meet deadlines under pressure, work under close supervision occasionally, and maintain concentration to detail
