Description

American Traveler is hiring a RN for a Float Pool Med/Surg position requiring an AL or compact RN license and at least 18 months of Med Surg and/or ICU experience.

Details
  • Float pool position within a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center
  • Assigned to a home unit on the first day of orientation, floating across similar units as needed (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds, ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task limited to 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds)
  • Potential home units include Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Med Surg/Oncology, Clinical Decision Unit, Orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology, each with distinct patient populations and ratios ranging from 1:5-6
  • 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p) on a 36/48 schedule, standard 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation of every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month
  • No on-call requirements
  • Scheduling follows a 4-week cycle with no self-scheduling, utilizing Smart Square
  • Telemetry monitored by dedicated Telemetry Techs, with RNs required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
  • Unit support includes CNAs (1:6 ratio), HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist coverage
  • Uses Cerner EMR (preferred), Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
Requirements
  • Active RN license (AL or Compact) required
  • BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum of 18 months experience in Med Surg and/or ICU required
  • Cerner EMR experience required if candidate has strictly ICU experience; EPIC or Cerner experience accepted for Med Surg background
  • Unit-specific skills may include wound care, chest tube management, NGT, IV starts, trach care, PEG/ostomy care, central line care, PCA pump management, and medication administration/documentation
  • Former staff must have a 6-month gap between last shift worked and travel contract start date
Additional Information
  • First-time travelers will be considered for this position
  • Provide direct patient care including assessment, prioritization, wound care, tube/line management, and documentation based on assigned unit
  • Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years will receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
  • Rehire orientation length depends on last date worked at the facility
  • Holiday coverage expected for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific days off are not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival
  • Up to 7 days of time off may be approved in advance, excluding facility blackout dates
  • Any scrub color permitted
  • Parking available in designated deck, levels 2 through 4
  • Candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for this position
