American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Level I Trauma Center's float pool, requiring at least 18 months of Med Surg/ICU experience and an active AL or compact RN license.
Details- 492-bed Level I Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center
- Staff Float Pool Med Surg position with a home unit assigned on the first day of orientation
- May float to units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Med Surg/Oncology, Orthopedics, or Med Surg/Ortho/Urology
- Patient populations vary by unit and include general surgery, vascular, neuro (CVA, TBI, seizure, spinal fusion, craniotomy), oncology, orthopedic, and urology cases
- Patient ratios typically 1:4-6 depending on unit
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM start, on a 36-48 hour schedule
- 36 standard hours per week on a 4-week schedule cycle using Smart Square (no self-scheduling)
- Weekend rotation required: every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to like units (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds, ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task with limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds)
- EMR:
Cerner, with EPIC experience also considered - Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- Telemetry monitored by techs on hallway monitors, with RNs required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
- Active RN license (AL state or compact) required
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum of 18 months of Med Surg and/or ICU experience required
- Cerner experience required for candidates with strictly ICU background
- EPIC or Cerner EMR experience required
- Unit-specific skills may include wound care, chest tube management, NGT, IV starts, trach care, PEG tube care, ostomy/colostomy care, foley catheter management, PCA pump use, and medication administration
- Chemo certification preferred for Med Surg/Oncology unit assignment
- Telemetry experience preferred
- Provide direct patient care including turning, bathing, and ADL assistance in line with lower patient ratios
- Support staff available on units including CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalist, and telemetry techs
- Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on-unit training
- Former staff members must wait 6 months from their last shift before returning as a travel RN
- Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
- Facility maintains blackout dates throughout the year during which time-off requests require additional approval
- Up to 7 days of time off can be pre-approved, excluding blackout dates
- Scrubs of any color are permitted
- Free parking available in designated parking deck levels
