American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift float pool position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 18 months of Med Surg and/or ICU experience with EPIC or Cerner.
Requirements Responsibilities- ,-and orientopedics, urology, and surgical patients within a Staff Float Pool Med Surg unit
- Facility features 492 beds, Level I Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center designation
- Patient ratios typically 1:4 with with a range of 1:4-6 depending on unit
- Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts (7:00pm PM start), 36-48 hours biweekly
- Weekend rotation required, every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to like units, including MS-MS, MS-ICU (task), MS-ER/MS holds, ICU-ICU, ICU-MS (task, limit of
3), and ICU-ER/ICU holds - Assigned a home unit on first day of orientation, with potential unit assignments including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Med Surg/Oncology, Orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology
- Telemetry monitored by telemetry techs, RNs required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
- Uses Cerner EMR (EPIC experience will be considered), Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- 4-week schedule cycle utilizing Smart Square, no self-scheduling
- ,.,ical assisting patients with turning, bathing, and ADLs, particularly on units with lower patient ratios
- Support staff on ununit typically includes CNAs (1:10-12 ratio), HUC/receptionistist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist
- Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
- Holiday coverage expected for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific days off are not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival
- Facility maintains blackout dates throughout the year during which time off requests will not be approved
- Up to 7 days of time off may be approved in advance, excluding blackout dates which require additional approval
- Scrubs of any color are permitted
- Free parking available in designated parking deck levels
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility as no local candidates are accepted
- Staff members must wait at least 6 months from their last shift worked before returning as a traveler
