Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a float pool position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring at least 18 months of Med Surg or ICU experience and an active AL or compact RN license.

Details
  • Float pool position covering multiple Med/Surg specialty units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Oncology, Orthopedics, and Urology/ENT
  • 492-bed Level I Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center designation
  • Patient ratios typically 1:4-6 depending on unit acuity
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), scheduled on a 4-week cycle using Smart Square
  • Every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts per month required
  • No on-call requirements
  • EMR is Cerner, though EPIC experience will be considered
  • Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
  • Telemetry monitored by dedicated techs, but RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
  • Floating required within like units (MS to MS, MS to ICU for tasks, MS to ER/holds, or similar ICU rotations)
  • Support staff includes CNAs, HUC/receptionists, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalists
Requirements
  • Active RN license (AL state or compact) required
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum of 18 months of Med Surg and/or ICU experience required
  • Cerner or EPIC EMR experience required;
    Cerner specifically required for ICU-only experience
  • Skills may include wound care, chest tube management, NGT, ostomy/colostomy care, trach care, PEG tubes, IV starts, central line blood draws, and PCA pump management depending on assigned unit
  • Chemo certification preferred but not required for Oncology assignments
Additional Information
  • Assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation
  • Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years will receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
  • One major and one minor seasonal holiday coverage expected per policy, though specific dates are not guaranteed off
  • Multiple blackout periods throughout the year during which time off requests will not be approved without special authorization
  • Up to 7 days of time off can be pre-approved excluding blackout dates
  • Scrubs may be any color
  • Free parking available in designated levels of the parking deck
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Previous staff must wait 6 months from their last shift before returning as a travel RN
  • Local candidates are not accepted; candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility
