American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift float pool position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring an active AL or compact RN license and at least 18 months of Med Surg and/or ICU experience.

• Staff Float Pool Med Surg position at a 492-bed Level I Trauma Center with Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center designation
• Assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation, which may include Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Med Surg/Oncology, Orthopedics, or MS/Ortho/Urology units
• Patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on unit assignment
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), scheduled on a 36/48 pattern totaling 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month)
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to like units, including MS-MS, MS-ICU (task only), MS-ER, ICU-ICU, ICU-MS (task, limit of
  3), and ICU-ER as needed
• Telemetry monitored by dedicated Telemetry Techs, but RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
• EMR is Cerner, though Epic experience will be considered
• Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
• Schedule follows a 4-week cycle with no self-scheduling, utilizing Smart Square

• Active RN license (AL state or compact) required
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum of 18 months of Med Surg and/or ICU experience required
• Cerner EMR experience required if experience is strictly ICU-based
• Skills may include wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV starts, trach care, PEG tubes, ostomy/colostomy care, foley catheters, drains, PCA pumps, and central line dressing changes depending on unit assignment
• Chemotherapy certification preferred for Med Surg/Oncology unit assignment but not required

• Unit-based responsibilities may include turning patients, assisting with ADLs and baths, medication administration, and escalation of care as needed
• Support staff on units may include CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalists depending on unit
• Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years will receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
• Rehire orientation length depends on last date worked at the facility
• Holiday expectations include coverage for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific dates off are not guaranteed prior to arrival
• Extensive blackout dates apply for RTO requests throughout 2026, including major holidays and several holiday weekends
• Up to 7 days of time off can be pre-approved, excluding blackout dates which require additional approval
• Any scrub color is permitted
• Free parking available in the parking deck, levels 2 through 4
• Candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
• Former staff members must wait 6 months from their last shift worked before returning as a traveler
• First-time travelers will be considered for this position
