American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring an active AL or compact RN license, 18+ months of Med Surg/ICU experience, and 12-hour night shifts.
Details- Level I Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center hospital setting
- Staff Float Pool Med Surg unit covering multiple specialty areas including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Med Surg/Oncology, Orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology
- Patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on unit
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) on a 36-48 hour schedule, 36 standard hours per week
- Weekend rotation required, either every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to like units/patient locations (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds, ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task, ICU-ER/ICU holds)
- EMR is Cerner, with Epic experience considered
- Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- Telemetry monitored by dedicated tele techs, but RNs required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
- Unit support includes CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist coverage
- Scheduling follows a 4-week cycle using Smart Square, no self-scheduling
- Active RN license (AL or compact) required
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med Surg and/or ICU experience required
- Cerner or Epic EMR experience required;
Cerner specifically required for candidates with ICU-only experience - At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience required for Trauma Surgical unit assignments
- Skills may include wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV starts, trach care, PEG tubes, ostomy care, foley catheters, and drain management depending on unit assignment
- One professional reference from a charge nurse or above within the past 12 months required for consideration
- Copies of certifications required for consideration
- Date of birth (day and month) required for consideration
- Assigned to a home unit on the first day of orientation
- New-to-facility travelers or returning travelers absent 1+ year receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
- Holiday coverage expected for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific dates off are not guaranteed prior to arrival
- Facility maintains blackout dates throughout the year during which time off requests require additional approval
- Up to 7 days of time off can be pre-approved, excluding blackout dates
- Any scrub color permitted
- Free parking available in designated parking deck levels
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Former staff members must wait 6 months from their last shift before returning in a travel role
- Candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
