American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring at least 18 months of Med Surg or ICU experience and an active AL or compact RN license.
Details- Staff Float Pool Med Surg role within a 492-bed Level I Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center
- Home unit assigned on the first day of orientation, with floating to like units such as MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds, or similar ICU assignments
- May be assigned to units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Med Surg/Oncology, Orthopedics, or MS/Ortho/Urology depending on need
- Patient ratios typically 1:4, ranging up to 1:6 depending on unit
- 12-hour day and night shifts (7a-7p or 7p-7a), 36/48 hour schedule
- Weekend rotation required, either every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month
- No on-call requirements
- Uses Cerner EMR, with consideration given to Epic experience
- Utilizes Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- Telemetry monitored by dedicated techs, though RNs must interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
- Scheduling follows a 4-week cycle using Smart Square, with no self-scheduling
- Active RN license (AL or compact) required
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum of 18 months of Med Surg and/or ICU experience required
- Epic or Cerner EMR experience required;
Cerner experience specifically required for candidates with strictly ICU background - Previous staff must wait 6 months from their last shift worked before returning in a travel role
- Daily responsibilities include wound care, IV starts, chest tube management, trach care, medication administration, and patient turning/ADL assistance due to lower patient ratios
- Chemo administration experience is highly preferred but not required for Oncology assignments
- Unit support includes CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalists, and telemetry techs
- New or returning travelers (gone 1+ years) receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
- Holiday coverage includes one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific days off are not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival
- Any scrub color is permitted
- Free parking is available on the 2nd through 4th levels of the parking deck
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
