American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse
- Med/Surg for a Staff Float Pool position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring an active AL or compact RN license and at least 18 months of Med Surg or ICU experience.
- Staff Float Pool Med Surg position within a 492-bed Level I Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), 36-48 hours per week on a 4-week self-scheduling cycle via Smart Square
- Assigned to a home unit on first day of orientation, which may include 6 North Trauma Surgical, 5 South Neuroscience, 5 North Med Surg/Oncology, 3 South Orthopedics, or 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology
- Patient ratios typically 1:4, ranging up to 1:6 depending on unit
- Floating required to like units (Med Surg to Med Surg, Med Surg to ICU for tasks, Med Surg to ER/Med Surg holds; ICU to ICU, ICU to Med Surg for tasks up to a limit of 3, ICU to ER/ICU holds)
- No on-call requirements
- Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month)
- EMR:
Cerner primary, Epic experience also considered - Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- Telemetry monitored by dedicated techs, with RNs required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
- Support staff available including CNAs (1:10-12 ratio), HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist
- Any scrub color permitted
- Free parking available in designated parking deck levels
- Active RN license (AL state or compact) required
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum of 18 months of Med Surg and/or ICU experience required
- Cerner or Epic EMR experience required;
Cerner specifically required for candidates with strictly ICU experience - Trauma or surgical experience required for Trauma Surgical unit assignments (minimum 1 year)
- Skills may include wound care, chest tubes, NGT, PEG, trach care, IV starts, central line blood draws, ostomy/colostomy care, drain management, and foley catheter care depending on unit assignment
- Chemotherapy certification preferred for Oncology unit assignments
- Telemetry interpretation skills required
- First-time travelers will be considered for this position
- Previous staff must wait 6 months from their last shift worked before returning as a traveler
- New-to-facility travelers or returning travelers absent 1+ years will receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on-unit orientation
- Rehire orientation length depends on time since last worked at the facility
- Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific days off are not guaranteed prior to arrival
- Facility observes blackout dates throughout the year during which RTO requests require additional approval
- Up to 7 days of time off may be pre-approved, excluding blackout dates
- Must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
- Charge nurses are present on units but rarely take patient assignments
