Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Staff Float Pool position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring an active AL or compact RN license and at least 18 months of Med Surg and/or ICU experience

Details
  • Float pool position covering multiple units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Med Surg/Oncology, Orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology
  • 492-bed hospital designated as a Level I Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), 36 hours per week
  • Patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on unit assignment
  • Floating required to similar units such as MS-MS, MS-ICU task assignments, MS-ER/MS holds, ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task, or ICU-ER/ICU holds
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Weekend rotation of every other weekend or four weekend days per month
  • EMR system is Cerner, with Epic experience also considered
  • Utilizes Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
  • Telemetry is monitored by dedicated techs, but RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
  • Schedule follows a 4-week cycle using Smart Square, no self-scheduling
Requirements
  • Active RN license (AL or compact) required
  • BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum of 18 months experience in Med Surg and/or ICU required
  • Cerner or Epic EMR experience required;
    Cerner specifically required if experience is strictly ICU-based
  • At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience preferred for Trauma Surgical unit assignments
  • Skills needed may include wound care, chest tube management, NGT, IV starts, medication administration, trach care, PEG tube care, ostomy/colostomy care, drain management, foley catheter care, central line blood draws, and PCA pump management
  • Chemotherapy administration experience preferred but not required for Med Surg/Oncology unit
  • Ability to interpret telemetry strips required
Additional Information
  • First-time travelers will be considered for this position
  • Traveler will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation
  • New-to-facility travelers or those returning after 1+ years will complete 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours of unit orientation
  • Unit support includes CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalist, and telemetry monitoring techs
  • Holiday coverage includes one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific days off are not guaranteed prior to arrival
  • Multiple facility blackout dates apply throughout the year during which time off requests may require additional approval
  • Up to 7 days of time off may be pre-approved, excluding blackout dates
  • Any scrub color is permitted
  • Free parking is available in the designated parking deck, levels 2 through 4
  • Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
  • Former staff members must wait 6 months from their last shift worked before returning as a traveler
