American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a float pool position on night shift, requiring an active AL or compact RN license and at least 18 months of Med/Surg experience.
Details- Float pool role covering multiple Med/Surg and specialty units within a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center
- Will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation
- Units may include Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Med Surg/Oncology, Clinical Decision Unit, Orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology
- Patient ratios generally range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on unit
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation of every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to like units/patient populations (e.g., MS-MS, MS-ICU tasking, MS-ER/holds) with a limit of 3 for ICU-MS tasking
- Uses Cerner EMR (preferred), Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- Telemetry monitored by techs, with RNs required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
- Scheduling follows a 4-week cycle using Smart Square with no self-scheduling
- Active AL or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum of 18 months Med/Surg experience required
- Skills may include wound care, chest tube management, NGT, PEG, trach care, IV starts, central line care, ostomy/colostomy care, and medication administration depending on unit assignment
- Chemo certification preferred for Oncology unit assignments
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply with the required experience
- Former staff must wait at least 6 months from their last shift before returning as a traveler
- Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ year will receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
- Support staff includes CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalists
- Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor holiday per policy
- Time off requests are subject to facility blackout dates and require approval
- Scrub color is unrestricted
- Parking is available in a designated deck (2nd through 4th levels)
- Candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius, as local candidates are not accepted for this position
